A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel in Varanasi on Sunday.
Indira Sleight (62), wife of UK-based Anthony Sleight, was found dead inside her hotel room in the Assi area. The body has been sent for postmortem. Hotel owner Shashank Singh said, “We came to know about the incident this morning from Indira’s friend Nina Singh, who had checked in with her on January 30. They were slated to leave for New Delhi today. While Indira was staying at Room No 9, Nina was in Room No 10. A doctor was called in to check on Indira, who declared her dead. We then informed the police.”
He added, “Earlier also, Nina and Indira had stayed at the same hotel while in Varanasi, where Indira used to learn Sanskrit.”
While Circle Officer (Bhelupur) Durgesh Kumar said the postmortem report had not reached him yet, sources at BHU Hospital, where the postmortem was conducted, alleged the death was caused due to unnatural reasons. SP (City) Rajiv Malhotra said, “Indira’s husband has been informed and the body will be taken to New Delhi on Tuesday.” — ENS
