Solar Eclipse at Varanasi India in BBC’s Wonders of The Solar System

BBC is all set to air its latest big-budget documentary series-Wonders Of The Solar System. The first episode gives an insight on the Sun and how it affects us in so many different ways. The BBC, however, does not intend to bore the audience with dry facts and explainations.The episode will also feature some amazing panoramic shots which had been taken painfully from helicopters, rocking music and submarine trips.

On July 22, 2009,a total solar eclipse took place off the coast of South Asia. Since in India, eclipse is considered to be a religious and spiritual event, people thronged the ghats of river Ganges for witnessing this phenomenal event.

The first episode will feature the solar eclipse that took place in Varanasi, India last year. In this episode people will come to know the interesting fact that the Sun is 400 times larger and 400 times away from the moon. This is the reason why a solar or lunar eclipse takes place four to seven times per year.
