Lucknow : To spread awareness about the use of forest resources, children as well as adults living in villages across 17 districts of the state will soon take a pledge to play pivotal roles in saving forests as part of the Uttar Pradesh Participatory Forest Management and Poverty Alleviation Programme (UPPFMPAP).
For this, the state forest department has selected 20 NGOs. Of the Rs 575.2 crore of the project’s budget, the state forest department and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have already released Rs 478 crore for infrastructure development, creating forest management committee through NGO support and executing the awareness programme for the next eight years.
Chief Conservator Forests (Planning) Rajive Kumar said while 20 NGOs have been selected as support agencies for the 14 districts, the district forest committees have submitted their reports on their infrastructure requirement.
