Varanasi, November 12 Over four decades after it was established, a separate emergency ward was inaugurated at the Paediatric Department of the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS-BHU) on Monday. BHU Vice-Chancellor Panjab Singh inaugurated the 6-bed ward on the first floor of the Paediatric Department at Sir Sunder Lal (SSU) Hospital.

New Delhi, Oct 12 (IANS) Spain's autonomous Andalucia region is to assist Unesco in preserving the cultural heritage of the Hindu holy town of Varanasi and to ensure the development of its urban areas on scientific lines. 'Andalucia is famous for its Islamic heritage cities of Seville and Granada and the collaboration is good way of bringing us together,' the region's vice president, Gaspar Zarrias, told reporters here Friday.

LUCKNOW: With no demands coming from the BSP for special trains for the upcoming rally of the party, other passengers might face a tough time on October 9. "We have not been told about the number of people expected to arrive at the station on the day to participate in the rally. Neither have we been asked about the requirement of coaches to accommodate the crowd," said an official. Last time, 17 special trains were run by the Northern Railway (NR) to accommodate the BSP supporters. But, this time they will board routine trains to reach Lucknow.

Varanasi, Sep 14: Medical services in eastern region of the state were paralysed today as doctors in government hospitals went on a four day strike in protest against the murder of a doctor yesterday. Protesting against the killing of a radiologist working in a government health centre, the doctors took out rallies and demonstrated against the administration demanding arrest of the culprits. Medical services remained paralysed in Varanasi, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Azamgarh, Mau, Balia, Jaunpur, Chandauli Ghazipur and other places, official sources here said today.

The soft drinks will not be allowed on Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus in Varanasi from August 1, 2007. BHU has placed a ban on Coke and Pepsi on campus. This decision was taken by the BHU administration on 1st August. Although, some people opposed the ban, but everybody agreed that cold/soft drinks are not good in any way. The Mehdiganj movement (against Coca-Cola) is getting strengthened gradually. Congratualtions to all colleagues (for your support to the movement).'

KANPUR: Most of Mumbai bar girls, 95 per cent of them being from UP alone, were found to be infected with HIV.
