A couple allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into a well at Sarnath, the police said.
Shanker, who was a caretaker of an orchard at Narain Vihar under Sarnath Police station, and his wife Shashi jumped into the well of an orchard last evening, they said.
Both of them fell on the pumps of the water pump and were rescued by the locals, the police said, adding that the seriously injured couple was rushed to hospital, where they are stated to be serious.
Police alleged that Shankar jumped into the well after a tiff with his wife, who followed him.
